So yes, I broke down and made a fiverr account, and while I was told I could adjust the price to my needs there was no option to do so in the process of requesting a gig, so I guess you can commission a $5 piece of art from me, anything you want. I live to please.

Collaberation of Medias

I love making simplistic cute watercolor/gouache backgrounds,
and I also love digitally coloring wild ink drawings,
so I made a stellar combination.
I'm excited to unveil Astraea (goddess of constellations and fortune telling)

Sketch Book

Sparkle Sky

There was a page of watercolor paper from last week I had laying around. Had almost thrown it away because honestly, the line work which was permanent was utterly awful. But, aside, it's perfectly good paper, it still has some use. So here I am making a gouache painting and this time I chose to do stars instead of flowers. I really like simple symbolic images like stars and flowers and lightning bolts etc.

Start off with a thin layer of blended rose red, violet, and cerulean gouache. I then draw the stars using a gel pen. I'll paint around them using a mix of purple black and cyan gouache. It's not going to be an even coat but that's okay, I like that. If I wanted an even coat I'd using a single acrylic paint)

done with the sky and I like where it's going but I want to add more.

To add some panache to the sky I'm going to use acrylic craft paint.
It's bright on the blue and more transparent than gouache, plus I have
the ability to paint hues of green and teal I wouldn't be able to get
using gouache no matter how much I mixed. normally I don't paint right out of the
bottle but since these details are going to be small I wont mix much at all.

Looking go so far

After tha acrylics I'm still not satisfied so
I'm using a sakura souffle pen which becomes transparent when dry.

oops.......I added too many lines with the sakura pen.
...I feel like the painting is overwhelmed.

So I go back and repaint the parts that I want removed.

And this is the completed painting. I like how it turned out for the most part. With practice I'll be able to discover more of what works in these types of paintings. This is the third time I've used the method of two layers of gouache to get this effect.

Madoka Paints

Madoka Kinoshita gives me life tbh. When I have art block, I love to watch her work. Her videos are so tranquil,  now I'm completely in the mood to paint.

Workspace

The post Workspace was removed on accident so I'm posting a new one. The first picture is a shot I took for my DA followers wanting to know what kind of supplies I used. Summary; I use a lot of caked watercolors, some gouache, and ink pens. My collection of pens has grown massively since this was taken in Jan/Feb, you can see in the bottom right picture. When I'm done with a painting sometimes I like to hang them up on my thread line. so they're always in view. When art block strikes me I look over at them and try to get inspired. My desk and all my tools are crammed in my tiny room. I grew up in and lived in this room for 9+ years. I don't mind it's small size, in fact I like it a lot, it's pretty cozy. Only downside is when I'm making my way to the door I must maneuver with caution or the side table could shake and a jar of pens could topple over, but not often. I'm pretty careful.

Even though I'm in my 20's now (22) I just started getting really into "girly" things (they're of course genderless and none exclusive to girls but I still call them girly out of habit, but assume it has a gender neutral connotation), for example, I'm collected stickers and pillows and blankets with bright colors. The jewelry box below I had painted last year and kept away in a box, until last month when I had on hand an entire unused set of Lisa Frank stickers. I used almost all of them to decorate it with. It's now my favorite thing to look at in the whole room.

Prints

The prints for Lo-o-o-o-ve! finally arrived in the mail. The place where I order the prints usually takes their time sending the prints out, I think I ordered them around April 1st - 5th so it's been at least 20 days from the time I bought them to the time they arrived. It's a while to wait but it's worth it. This time I only ordered three because I wasn't sure how many would sell if any. I spent a great deal on my last prints for PRISM and not a single one has sold yet. But this is fan art, I imagine it'll be more popular.

Planet Hopper completed.

This is the completed Illustration from earlier. I'm a little upset that the pinks didn't show up as bright when I scanned the image as they do in person. about the decor in this painting, at first I was pretty skeptical, I didn't like the sparkles on the dress they felt a little forced but once I added sparkles up top and outlined the five larger sparkles it balanced out a bit. The hair was originally going to be pink but I made it blonde because 1) i've been going overboard with the pinks lately. I got away with using pink yet again in this one because they're tinted purple and it matches with the rest of the purple, and 2) blonde goes with green and with the ears really well I think. whenever I draw lime green alien dolls, if I give them hair it's almost always blonde.
WIP Alien bunny girl. have yet to name it officially.

45% OFF SALE GOING ON TILL END OF MAY

I completely forgot to mention this but I'm having a spring cleaning sale in my online Etsy store, Prism Pixels till the end of May when I'm moving out. In the meantime I'm going job hunting in Louisville, and then hotel hopping after that for a few months. I need to save up as much as possible until then, I need money for food, clothes, haircut, cellphone minutes, etc. This is my first time being completely on my own besides college (but even then I wasn't really alone).

Please check out the store if you have a minute. Link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrismPixels?ref=hdr_shop_menu

The coupon code for the sale is FAREWELL.

rough draft sketches, ideas for next painting.

mental note

I'm going through the stores of other artists on Etsy to find a solution to my art block about backgrounds, I had a thought; miscellaneous doodles either all in one solid marker color with a plain white background or some parts filled in.

I really like this background by Chole Lee

It reminds me of an illustration I did last October

I'm so drawn to the simplicity of a stylized ink drawing.

I guess another solution to my problem would be to create a faux frame like many artists on Etsy do when painting solo portraits, it feels like a cheap escape but the option is always there.

Once again I could utilize my colored pencils for a change and stitch some gradients together. I only know of one artist who does this successfully and she's very skilled. I'd have to practice a bit to get the hang of it.

Normally I don't like colored pencils because (at least the cheap ones i have) color doesn't stand up very well compared to all my other medias, but as a background I can see myself settling with it.

This is the completed painting from earlier, one thing I like about this painting is the shirt of the doll on the right, I used marker and ink wash to color it and it's bright which I like. I messed up on the hair for the doll on the left, and I think it messed up my jam because I kept making rash decisions after that. I added lots of lines to it, thinking it would look better but the bangs were askew, so I colored them black. I like it though, I actually dyed my hair in this way once, I had blonde locks but black bangs, idk I think it looks edgy. Hm.

 Personal notes for next painting similar to this one;

  •  use darker duller colors for the background; grays, dark blues, blacks, browns, and indigo
  • more small ink marks like on the sleeve, I like it.
  •  use thinner pens for tattoos, this one stands out way y y y y too much
  • consider using colored pencil to add details on clothing, like on jeans to add texture.
  •  use thinner paint brushes for small details.
  •  stop adding pen lines in the middle of color construction, it throws everything off, wait till after all the paint is dried.
  •  outline as little as possibly, break it up evenly, like there is too much line work on the facial definition of the jaws and necks, id like them to at least be thinner, more organic. Should probably use ballpoint pen for this task.

Steven Universe Prints

Very very soon prints of these two original paintings, fan art of steven universe Ruby and Sapphire, and Stevonnie, will be in the etsy shop. I'd imagine pricing them around $16 a piece, which is reasonable. I've gotten several requests for both of these so, hopefully, they'll go fast.

(only three will be available for each)

Patreon

In an effort to ease my financial worries and make it possible to produce more content, I made this Patreon account last year. I haven't had anyone pledge and that doesn't really surprise me, I'm pretty small time, but I hope someday it will be of some help, who knows. If I could actually reach my goal, or even half my goal, I could focus on art full time.

Work in progress snapshot of the next painting, after drafting. I wasn't sure at all what to do with the background, I run into that problem a lot. I always want to do some elaborate repetitive designs but end up avoiding it because it would take too much time. but I will make it look pretty, I'm good at that, alright.

I starting working on a colorful series of dolls in ultra feminine styles with undertones of self empowering emotions. I like my subjects to be confident or at least self assured, with looks of determination and resolve, if that makes sense. I think rainbow colors are like a superpower, they draw viewers to them like magnets using their hypnotic ability.
(OC Design, 2010?)
This morning, digging around, I found an older graphing notebook from pre 2011, I know it's 4+ years old because the first sketching inside was a character design for some high school printmaking assignment from way back when. (I think I was a junior?)

I used to be such a fan of skinny sharpies, the lines in my work were so blotchy and bloody. Graphing paper is so thin that the heavy bleeding claimed the life of the two pages behind it in it's creation. It's too bad, I like working on graph paper. The ability to compose, and judge proportions when sketching is made much simpler, and that's why I started using the notebook again.

It wasn't enough to just sketch blindly so I had a great idea, to use the graph book to map out my next painting.

I thought I'd paint more girls since that seems to be my thing lately (and pretty much always, I used to get teased for it in middle school. My classmates would spread gossip that I only drew girls because I was a lesbian.) Honestly though I don't draw many human girls, I draw dolls. That's why the proportions are so stylized and the hair is so flamboyant, and the eyes so big. I don't want people to think I'm drawing actual people, because they might think "this is the standard girls should live up too", or "this person doesn't think girls are pretty without big eyes" which isn't true at all. I think all women are beautiful, and the bigger the better, but my dolls tend to be small in size right now because that's how I learned to make them. It's a crime of habit I hope to grow out of.
